by Alex Wright / Las Vegas Review-Journal · Las Vegas Review-JournalLiberty High boys basketball point guard Tyus Thomas announced his college commitment to Houston on his Instagram page Tuesday evening.
Thomas is the younger brother of former UNLV point guard Dedan Thomas Jr., who transferred this offseason to Houston following a year at LSU.
“After everything I’ve been through, I learned it only takes one big win to cancel all the losses,” Thomas wrote in his commitment post on Instagram. “Next season, I’m proud to say I’ll be attending the University of Houston, joining the program as a redshirt freshman.”
At Liberty last season, Tyus Thomas was the Class 5A co-MVP and averaged 14.9 points and 3.9 assists as a senior for the Patriots, who were 5A state runner-up.
Thomas, listed at 6 feet and 175 pounds, had other notable college offers from LSU, UNLV and Creighton. He is listed as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and Nevada’s only ranked class of 2026 prospect by the site’s composite rankings.
