Skye Canyon announces 10th annual chalk cheers

Calling all chalk artists! Registration is open for Skye Canyon’s 10th annual Chalk &Cheers, inviting student, amateur and professional artists to transform the park sidewalk into colorful works of art during the juried chalk art competition Oct. 24.

This year’s theme, “Skye Full of Dreams!,” challenges artists to put their own creative spin on the possibilities, ambitions and imagination inspired by a sky full of dreams. The competition is open to artists of all skill levels, with three divisions: student (ages 12–18), amateur (18+) and professional.

Cash prizes will be awarded in each division, including $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. Artists will also compete for $100 specialty awards for Best 3D Piece and Best Use of Color, while festivalgoers will help select the People’s Choice Award, also worth $100.

The live competition is the centerpiece of Skye Canyon’s annual fall festival, taking place from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Skye Canyon Park, 10111 W. Skye Canyon Park Drive. Guests can watch the chalk creations come to life throughout the day while enjoying an art fair, pumpkin patch, activities and food.

More than 30 local artisans will fill the Vendor Village, showcasing and selling original creations. Additional festivities include inflatable games, freestyle chalk art, face painting, spooky slime and a pumpkin patch, along with food from World’s Best Corndogs, Mr. Funnel Cake, Empanada Factory and Flip n Grill.

Chalk &Cheers benefits CORE, a Las Vegas education nonprofit dedicated to helping historically underserved students and their families achieve economic mobility and lead choice-filled lives. Through a two-generation model of support, CORE provides scholars and their families with resources and experiences focused on career exploration, financial literacy, experiential learning, character development and long-term success.
