The Design Museum is hosting a major new animation exhibition from the makers of Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings.

Opening on October 15, ‘Laika presents Wildwood: The Exhibition’ will offer an access-all-areas pass to the epic world of the Portland stop-motion animators’ new movie Wildwood.

Anyone who loved the Tim Burton or Wes Anderson exhibitions at The Design Museum should find lots to love in a making-of story told with props, costumes, models, puppets and miniature sets.

The exhibition will take visitors through the painstaking process of creating a stop-motion movie on the scale of Wildwood, with audiovisual content and interactive installations revealing the work of the visual development artists, model makers, scenic painters and more. 

Featuring the voices of Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan and Mahershala Ali, Wildwood follows a young girl who heads into a mysterious forest when her baby brother is kidnapped by crows. It’s the stop-motion animation house’s biggest movie yet.

The exhibition also features a free-to-visit area in the museum’s mezzanine that will share Laika’s back story across two decades of filmmaking, taking in Coraline, The Boxtrolls, ParaNorman, Kubo and the Two Strings and The Missing Link. 

‘We are delighted that Laika has chosen the Design Museum to host this exhibition, following in the footsteps of our previous exhibitions on the craft of film-making dedicated to Stanley Kubrick, Tim Burton and Wes Anderson,’ says Tim Marlow, director and CEO of the Design Museum. ‘Wildwood is a compelling case study in contemporary design, demonstrating how creative vision, craft, engineering and technology come together through a highly collaborative process.’

Laika presents Wildwood: The Exhibition runs from October 15 to January 10, 2027. Head to the Design Museum website to book tickets.

Wildwood gets its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 11, before heading for cinemas in the UK and Ireland on October 23.
