Noel Gallagher has broken his silence on rumours that Oasis will record the next James Bond theme.

In August, it was announced that Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight would write the latest Bond film in the franchise.

Following this, Amazon MGM were rumoured to have lined up Oasis to be the voices behind the soundtrack.

However, during an appearance on Talk Sport on Monday, Noel responded to the reports, saying: “This James Bond thing? What, Oasis? Nah.”

However, he did confess that Oasis would be interested if approached to pen a future theme tune.

“Of course. It would be an absolute honour, and I think those kind of things should be done by Brits not Yanks,” he said.

Back in 2008, Noel slammed the soundtrack for the “greatest British agent of all time has to be soundtracked by a bunch of Americans,” referring to the Quantum Of Solace theme ‘Another Way To Die’ by Alicia Keys and Jack White.

At the time, he claimed that an unreleased song titled Freaky Teeth, would be a great Bond theme.

He said: “I listened back to it thinking, “That’d make a f*****g great Bond theme. It’s a bit of a p**s-take that the greatest British agent of all time has to be soundtracked by a bunch of Americans.”

A source had previously told The Sun of the rumours: “The 007 films are one of the great British franchises. And who better to record the theme song than one of the greatest ever British bands?”

“Liam’s swagger and Noel’s anthemic music would be perfect to soundtrack the new film.”

“It is no secret that Noel is a big fan of the Bond films and he would love to have his name listed as one of the few songwriters of a Bond theme among greats like Sir Paul McCartney, Duran Duran and Adele.”

A number of big names have been tipped to replace Daniel Craig, such as Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James and Idris Elba.

When pressed on who could be the new Bond, Steven Knight responded: “That is a very, very good question, and one I can’t give you the answer to.”
