Who is Adam Peaty? Olympic swimmer and Gordon Ramsay’s new son-in-law
· GOSS.ieIn a wedding that’s captured headlines for weeks, Olympic swimming legend Adam Peaty married Holly Ramsay, the daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, on Saturday, December 27th.
While the star-studded ceremony at Bath Abbey was attended by the likes of the Beckhams, the day was also marked by a very public family feud on the swimmer’s side – one that saw several of his closest relatives, including his own parents, absent from the big event.
The union of one of Britain’s most decorated athletes and the daughter of one of the world’s most famous chefs has sparked widespread interest – but who exactly is Adam Peaty, and how did he find himself in the spotlight?
Adam George Peaty OBE is one of Britain’s most accomplished swimmers, specializing in the breaststroke.
Born on 28 December 1994 in Uttoxeter, England, he quickly rose to international prominence thanks to his record-breaking speed and competitive drive.
Peaty is a multiple Olympic and World Champion, holding world records in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke, and was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to the sport.
Though swimming has defined much of his public identity, Adam’s personal life has been in the spotlight in recent years – not least because of his relationship with Holly Ramsay.
Adam and Holly met through her sister Tilly while the pair both took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2021.
Holly announced their engagement on September 12, 2024 in an Instagram post that said: “I am marrying my best friend. I truly cannot put into words how I am feeling right now.”
In a separate post, Adam wrote: “I can’t believe you’re going to be my wife. I’m truly the luckiest man on earth to have such a gentle, caring and beautiful woman by my side.”
After their wedding, Holly has officially become step-mum to Adam’s young son, George, whom he shares with his former partner Eirianedd Munro.
The couple’s wedding has been surrounded by drama in recent weeks, as Adam decided to bar his relatives from attending, except his sister Bethany – who was one of Holly’s bridesmaids.
According to reports, Adam offered his father, Mark, a last-minute seat at the back of the church, but his dad chose not to accept.
It’s understood the Peaty family feud kicked off when Adam’s mum Caroline was not invited to Holly’s hen party at Soho Farmhouse.
The feud then escalated when the police were called after Adam’s brother James allegedly made threats via text while Adam was on his stag do.
According to the Daily Mail, the 30-year-old received a brutal text from his estranged aunt just moments before walking down the aisle to marry Holly.
Her text allegedly read: “I hope you never suffer the depth of pain you have put your mother through and despite it all she loves you still. Shame on you both. Shame.
“Remember on this, your happiest day, and on each anniversary of your happiest day, that you hurt your mum so deeply her soul screams.”
In the absence of his family, it’s understood Adam’s swimming coach Melanie Marshall stepped in to deliver a reception speech.
