Paul Mescal sets the record straight on rumoured acting break: 'I’d lose my mind'
· GOSS.iePaul Mescal has set the record straight on rumours he’s set to take a break from acting.
The actor is currently promoting his new film, Hamnet, in which he stars alongside fellow Irish star Jessie Buckley, with the pair both being nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award.
However, the actor recently sparked concern from fans when he claimed “people will get a break from me and I’ll get a break from them” over the next two years in a recent interview with The Guardian.
The 29-year-old actor has since clarified those remarks, saying they might have been misconstrued because he will be very busy filming four new Beatles biopics.
He told PEOPLE: “Oh, what I mean by that is that I’m excited for the period of time that will fundamentally exist where I won’t be promoting anything.”
“I would really lose my mind if I took two years off [from] my job,” he added. “But what I’m excited about is the concept of not being on a promotional tour for the next two years.”
“I think it’ll give people a welcome break from seeing my face,” he joked.
It was revealed at Sony’s CinemaCon in April that Paul had joined up as Paul McCartney, with Joseph Quinn, who will play George Harrison, Harris Dickinson, who will play John Lennon and Barry Keoghan, who will play Ringo Starr, for the upcoming Beatles biopics, which is scheduled for release in April 2028.
Months later, in October, it was revealed that Saoirse Ronan would be joining her fellow Irish stars for the project.
Mia McKenna-Bruce will play Ringo Starr’s first wife, Maureen Starkey, Anna Sawai will play John Lennon’s second wife, Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood will play George Harrison’s first wife, Pattie Boyd and Saoirse Ronan will play Linda McCartney, Paul McCartney’s first wife.
