Instagram has a new logo for the first time in a decade.

The Meta social media platform unveiled its updated wordmark on Thursday, with the traditional script letters replaced by a half-cursive, half-print design.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the change in a post to his accounts on Instagram and Threads, Meta's text-based platform.

"The wordmark at the top of the app hasn't changed in 10 years, so it was time for a refresh. Cleaner and more modern, with references to the original and the simplicity and craft that's always made it Instagram."

As Mosseri noted, this is the first change to the wordmark since 2016. At that time, Instagram updated its app icon to the current pink gradient-style look. There were no changes made to the app icon, at least for now.
