Randy Travis surprises a fan undergoing cancer treatment

Country music icon grants patient's lifelong wish.

Country music icon Randy Travis, who lives in Grayson County, did something good for a longtime fan who wished she could meet the singer, helping her get through her fight against cancer.

Bunnia Greenwood is undergoing cancer treatment at City of Hope Center Chicago in Zion, Illinois.

The hospital asked Travis' team for a signed poster. She got a personalized visit instead!

Video sent to NBC 5 shows the moment Travis and his wife Mary surprised his fan.

“It's so good to see you. I'm Mary Travis, and this is Randy," Mary said as the couple came into the room to applause and cheers. "I'll take his mask off so you can see him."

Travis stayed to visit with Greenwood and sign more autographs, giving the veteran NICU nurse turned patient a day she'll remember "forever and ever."

"I'm in shock," Greenwood said. "To take the time out of their busy schedule and day and make it special for me, I just don't know what to say. It's just very special."

The hospital says Travis' music has kept Greenwood's spirit lifted and her heart full during days of treatment.

"We get to keep going, even after setbacks in life. And the patient that we're seeing today has the same heart, the same attitude that Randy does, and that's to choose joy over defeat," Mary Travis said.

"And it means a lot to us that we get to do this. It's not that we have to; it's that y'all didn't even ask. Y'all just asked for a Zoom call. And we thought, well, you know what? We can do one better than a Zoom. We'll just zoom on up to Zion."

Years after a near-fatal stroke impacted his ability to sing, Travis is back on stage with "The More Than Life Tour." A guest vocalist performs Travis' hits alongside his original touring band.

The tour stops at the Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas on Thursday, October 15th.
