Linda McCartney honored with USPS stamps featuring her photographs

The pioneering photographer and animal rights activist is honored with stamps showcasing five of her photographs.

In honor of pioneering photographer and animal rights activist Linda McCartney, who was a pivotal figure in the vegetarianism movement, the U.S. Postal Service has issued stamps featuring her photos.

The stamps were first issued at a First-Day-of-Issue dedication ceremony at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. 20 stamps feature five different photographs by McCartney.

She was the first female photographer to have their work featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine with a 1968 portrait of Eric Clapton. This feat happened after McCartney rose to fame by capturing some of the most memorable musicians of the 1960s in photographs that felt relaxed, intimate and full of life.

McCartney’s photographs have been shown internationally at places such as the Royal Photographic Society and the Victoria and Albert Museum in England.

USPS said her husband, musician Paul McCartney, and their children and animals were among McCartney’s favorite subjects to photograph.

According to USPS, the selvage features a black-and-white self-portrait of McCartney behind her camera.

USPS said one of its art directors, Derry Noyes, designed the stamps and stamp pane.
