And the 2026 Oscar goes to….

Hollywood’s biggest stars gathered Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the 98th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien. The ceremony featured several milestone moments, including a historic win for “Sinners” cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, who became the first woman to win the Oscar for best cinematography in the Academy’s 98-year history. The audience rose to a standing ovation as she accepted the award.

The night also marked long-awaited first Academy Awards for directors Ryan Coogler and Paul Thomas Anderson. Coogler won best original screenplay for “Sinners,” which also picked up awards for best cinematography and best score. Anderson earned his first Oscar after 14 nominations for writing “One Battle After Another.”

“One Battle After Another” added more wins during the ceremony, including best casting for Cassandra Kulukundis, the first time the category has been awarded, and best supporting actor for Sean Penn, who did not attend the ceremony.

The Academy also recognized standout performances across the industry, including Amy Madigan’s best supporting actress win for “Weapons,” which came four decades after her first Oscar nomination.
