Mouse Trailer: Kelly O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson’s Berlinale Favorite Arrives This Fall

Just off their acclaimed 2024 feature Ghostlight, Kelly O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson continued their status as preeminent chroniclers of modern American life with Mouse. The film—starring Sophie Okonedo, Katherine Mallen Kupferer, Chloe Coleman, Tara Mallen, Iman Vellani, David Hyde Pierce—made a fine impression at this year’s Berlinale, and will open on November 6 from the Independent Film Company, ahead of which comes a first trailer.

As Savina Petkova said in our review out of Berlin, “What makes Mouse special is its attention to women’s friendship (and kinship) across generations. By zooming in on the complex relationship between a kid who’d rather consider herself motherless and a childless mother, Mouse takes on the responsibility to tell each story in full, splitting screen time between them individually and together as they grow closer, remembering Callie.”

Here’s the synopsis: “It’s 2002, and best friends Minnie (Kupferer) and Callie (Coleman) are heading into their senior year of high school, with Minnie long living in the protective shadow of the charismatic and admired Callie. When their friendship is suddenly upended at the start of the summer, Minnie struggles to define her own identity and forms a complicated relationship with Callie’s poised, attentive mother (Okonedo), pulling her further from her own chaotic home.”
