The Friend’s House Is Here Trailer Enters Tehran’s Underground Art Scene
by Jordan Raup · The Film StageWritten, directed, and produced by Hossein Keshavarz and Maryam Ataei, The Friend’s House Is Here takes a look inside Tehran’s underground art scene in a drama shot covertly. Winner of the US Dramatic Special Jury Award for Ensemble Cast at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, Greenwich Entertainment picked the film up for a U.S. release beginning December 4 and now the first trailer has arrived.
Here’s the synopsis: “In Tehran’s underground art scene, Pari, a theater director, and Hanna, a dancer, are roommates, best friends, actors, and professional partners, navigating rehearsals, performances, and the quiet rituals of everyday life—until their secret circle is discovered. Shot covertly but far removed from familiar portrayals of Iran, directors Maryam Ataei and Hossein Keshavarz blur the boundaries between theatrical performance and lived experience, crafting a luminous portrait of sisterhood where art becomes inseparable from life and even the smallest creative choices can become acts of resistance.”
“The story of the film is also the story of making the film,” said the directors. “It is about the power of art to speak truth in a society where misinformation is the official narrative. It is about artists who risk everything to live authentically. We shot the film underground, under the threat of arrest if caught. Indeed, the threat of imprisonment is the reality every artist in Iran faces. But this reality does not define us. It is a part of our lives. But we focus on the sweet today.”
