Trump can’t run again, acting attorney general says

by · The Washington Times

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said Wednesday he doesn’t think President Trump is eligible to run for another term in the White House.

“I don’t believe he is,” Mr. Blanche told the Senate Judiciary Committee.

He was testifying in his confirmation hearing to become permanent attorney general. Sen. Chris Coons, Delaware Democrat, prodded him on the president’s potential run for reelection.

Mr. Trump has teased the idea of attempting a third term, despite the 22nd Amendment’s words that would seem to bar him.

That amendment states: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”

Mr. Trump won election in 2016 and 2024 and has claimed — without firm proof — that he was the rightful winner in 2020.
