What Is With The Star Wars Art Popping Up Around Amarillo?

· NewsTalk 1290

Amarillo has long been known for it's wild art scene. We've got all the random Marsh art around the city, we have the Hoodoo Mural Festival every year, and we see random art that just pops up around the city at times.

Now, we've got something new that's been popping up, and people are absolutely loving what they see.

It seems that Star Wars art has been randomly showing up in certain parts of Amarillo, and we aren't 100% sure if it's popping up for a reason, or if we've just got some serious Star Wars fans out there showing off their art.

There have been a couple of different sightings of them but we aren't sure if there are more we should be looking for, or if these are the only two that have been seen.

The one pictured in the link above is a storm trooper in position to take a shot at someone. It's so well done it looks like a giant vinyl mural that got slapped on a brick wall over by Yellow City Street Food.

The mural is done in all red and black and it is so spot on.

Another one has been reportedly spotted on Lincoln right off Amarillo Blvd. It is said to be near the train tracks there. I haven't seen a picture of that one yet or heard what it is. It's possible it's another storm trooper.

There seems to be a debate as to whether or not it's graffiti popping up or if this is something commissioned by the city. The argument is that it can't be commissioned by the city because the one on the Blvd. is BNSF property and the city has no say over it.

Either way, it's pretty cool to see and very well done art. I'm looking forward to see if there is more that pops up.
