Silent Bob Just Officiated a Marriage at El Paso Comic Con

El Paso, you really showed out this weekend.

Between multiple music festivals running simultaneously, two sold-out nights of BTS at the Sun Bowl, and El Paso Comic Con 2026 bringing an absolutely stacked guest list to the Convention Center, the Sun City was operating at full chaos mode in the best possible way. It was the kind of weekend where you had to choose your adventure and hope you made the right call.

For one couple, Comic Con was definitely the right call.

Jay, Silent Bob, Cheech, and Chong All in One Room

Let that sentence sink in for a second. El Paso Comic Con pulled off the rare double by booking not one but two legendary stoner duos under the same roof. Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, the brains and the chaos behind Jay and Silent Bob, came to the borderland alongside the original icons of counterculture comedy, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. The Convention Center has never smelled more like a good time.

For fans of the View Askewniverse, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, or really anything from the golden age of 90s indie film, being in the same room as Kevin Smith is already a bucket list moment. Smith is one of pop culture's most beloved voices, a filmmaker who turned a New Jersey convenience store into a cinematic universe on a shoestring budget and never stopped talking to his fans directly.

Silent Bob Said "I Do" For Someone Else

But here is the story that will be retold at every El Paso nerd gathering for years to come.

During Kevin Smith's Q&A panel, local author Timothy Hernandez and his fiance stepped up to the microphone. What happened next was the kind of moment that belongs in a movie. Right there on stage, in front of a room full of Comic Con attendees, Kevin Smith officiated their wedding.

This is not as out of left field as it sounds. Smith is an ordained minister through the Universal Life Church and is no stranger to fan weddings, having officiated couples at conventions in New York and Australia. But there is something specifically perfect about it happening here, in El Paso, at a Q&A, in the middle of the most overstuffed pop culture weekend this city has seen in recent memory. Silent Bob, the quietest character in the View Askewniverse, presided over one of the loudest "yes" moments of the year. EWASH

Congratulations to Timothy and his now-wife. You picked one of the greatest weekends in recent El Paso history to make it official, and you somehow made it even more memorable.

El Paso, You Really Do Not Miss

Between BTS selling out the Sun Bowl two nights in a row, back-to-back music festivals, and a Comic Con that brought in Pam Grier, Kevin Von Erich, and both of the most iconic stoner duos in entertainment history, this was the kind of weekend that reminds you exactly why this city punches above its weight. El Paso showed up. El Paso showed out. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, two people got married by Silent Bob.
