A Walk Through Time: Discovering the Best Preserved Brick Streets in Amarillo
· NewsTalk 1290One of the great things about driving around Amarillo is all of the sights you can take in. From the tourist traps like The Big Texan to the Cadillac and Slug Bug Ranches. Even trying to spot all of the Dynamite Museum signs around town. We have a lot to look at.
Photo-Ready Streets: The Best Backdrops for Local Memories
We have a lot to enjoy in our city. One feature we have that few other cities can boast of is our historic brick roads. We do still have some around town to enjoy. Whether you are trying to find them just to see or you are looking for a great backdrop for photos, they are something to experience.
The Wolflin Advantage: Beauty Meets Durability
The Wolflin area is one of the first places that I have encountered the Amarillo brick roads. There are a few areas near 32nd and Lipscomb or Ong where a lot of people stop to take photos. Between the brick roads and the beautiful trees, the reason people stop is obvious.
There are other areas with brick roads, like Tyler Street heading downtown and even near Grant and 2nd. The older areas in our city are your best shot at experiencing some of this greatness.

There are some people who are probably annoyed with the fact that these roads aren't as smooth as others, but hey, they are a part of our history. They have withstood the elements, and even if they are less smooth, they certainly don't have potholes like all the other streets in our area. That right there is a reason we wished we could have more.
Natural Traffic Calming: Safety Benefits of the Bumpy Ride
What are some other advantages of these brick roads in Amarillo? They act as a natural speed bump. They aren't as easy to speed down at 50 mph. So they really do help the traffic calm down a bit.
You can also tell when you are in a part of our city with a lot of history when you approach a neighborhood with brick roads. These roads have survived a lot, from our 100-degree summers to some of our harshest winters. These streets have seen it all, and they are still standing.
Enjoy them for what they are, a calmer part of our lives. A place to slow down literally and figuratively, and take in the scenery.
