Missing Texas A&M Grad Found Safe After Three Weeks
· NewsTalk 1290Nearly three weeks after a Texas A&M University graduate was reported missing in Houston, her family has shared the update everyone was hoping for: Sydney Marquez has been found safe.
Sydney Marquez, a 24-year-old Texas A&M grad, was first reported missing last month. The search for Marquez led investigators to a Chinatown shopping center off Bellaire in Houston, Texas, where surveillance footage last traced her.
Everything about Sydney's disappearance was a mystery. Sydney had been visiting a friend in Houston at the time she went missing. Investigators said she had left her phones, clothes, and makeup inside her vehicle, raising serious concerns about her safety.
Texas Equusearch previously noted that her vehicle appeared to have mechanical issues and that she was seen walking miles away from where it was recovered.
Fast forward nearly three weeks, Sydney’s sister, Clarissa Marquez, shared an emotional Instagram post around 2 a.m.
"I know it's late but I just had to say Sydney has been found. I have so many emotions and I just couldn't wait and I’m just so incredibly grateful for you guys because someone from social media actually found her."
Clarissa really credits the power of social media for locating her sister. She explained that someone who had seen posts about Sydney reached out with a crucial tip that ultimately helped locate her.
"Thank you guys so much, I can't wait to have my sister back," she added.
The AWARE Foundation, a nonprofit that had been assisting the family and sharing Sydney’s information, also posted Friday morning that she had been found safe. No additional details have been released about where she was located or what led to her disappearance.
