Bookings rise for trains, buses to Germany in anticipation of Oktoberfest

Trains going towards Germany will be busier over the coming weeks due to Oktoberfest. FlixBus and NS International are seeing a rise in the number of bookings. Oktoberfest will begin on Saturday and continue until Sunday, October 4.

FlixBus has seen a rise of 15 percent in bookings, especially on the weekend. “Just like every year, Oktoberfest is having an impact,” a spokesperson said. The bus travel provider is offering trips to Germany from various cities in the Netherlands.

Trains going towards Germany will also be busier. NS International has seen an increase in train tickets being booked, likely due to the beer celebration held at various places in Germany. “We never ask why someone has booked a ticket, so we can never know for sure,” a spokesperson for NS said.

The highlight of the two-week celebration is taking place in Munich, in the southern part of the country.

Anyone planning on visiting the Munich party in Bavaria will have to be prepared to spend plenty of money. A 1-liter beer mug will cost an average of 15.61 euros at this year's Oktoberfest, up 2.4 percent from last year.

Munich Mayor Dominik Krause will officially open the festival. Millions of people from around the world are expected to attend, with many visitors wearing traditional lederhosen and dirndl dresses.
