Third explosion hits pilates studio since June; Zevenaar police investigating

A pilates studio in Zevenaar was the target of an explosion for the third time this summer, early Monday. Around 2:45 a.m., a brick was thrown through a window, followed by a loud bang, Omroep Gelderland reported.

Multiple windows were destroyed, and part of the studio has been boarded up with wooden panels. Police sealed off the building with tape and are investigating at the scene.

The first explosion occurred at the end of June near the front door of the business. It was then followed by a fire. A witness reportedly saw someone run away after that blast.

Five days later, another attack took place. An explosive device detonated inside the studio, and a window was smashed. The Dutch word for “pay” was written three times on one of the windows.

Police are examining whether the explosions are connected. Authorities have not determined why the business has been targeted three times. No arrests have been made.

The studio offers reformer pilates, a form of the exercise that uses specialized machines rather than a mat.
