Angelina Jolie finalises divorce from Brad Pitt after 8 years and says she's 'exhausted'

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally settled their divorce, ending an eight-year court battle. TMZ reports that Tomb Raider actress Angelina Jolie submitted her paperwork on Monday.

Her lawyer, James Simon, released a statement saying: "More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr Pitt. She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family."

He added, "This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over." Despite her substantial wealth, estimated at $120 million, Angelina chose not to seek spousal or family support from Brad. His legal team has not yet made any statements regarding the settlement.

The Oscar-winning duo, once known as "Brangelina", were Hollywood's A-list couple, sharing six children and marrying in 2014 in France, with a ceremony that included their kids who had a hand in designing Angelina's dress, reports the Mirror.

Angelina Jolie sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry when she filed for divorce from Brad Pitt just two years into their marriage, citing 'irreconcilable differences. ' The filing came after an alleged incident on a private jet flight from Europe, where Angelina claimed that Brad was abusive towards her and their children - an allegation that Brad has always denied and was subsequently cleared of by authorities following an investigation.

In 2019, they were declared divorced and single by a judge, but the division of their assets and custody of their children had to be decided separately, leading to numerous hurdles. A private judge hired by Brad made a decision shortly thereafter, which included equal custody of their children, but Angelina filed to have him removed from the case due to an undisclosed conflict of interest.

The appeal was upheld and Brad's private judge was removed, meaning the couple had to start over. Angelina and Brad first met in 2004 on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith, where they portrayed a married couple harbouring a big secret from each other.

At the time, Brad was married to Friends actress Jennifer Aniston. After Brad's split from Jennifer, he went public with Angelina months later in 2005. The couple flaunted their new romance in a magazine photoshoot that depicted them as a married couple. Jennifer responded at the time, stating that her ex-husband lacked a 'sensitivity chip.'

Despite criticism, Brad went on to have six children with Angelina - Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne. Sources claim that Brad Pitt has "virtually no contact" with his older children. Zahara, the eldest daughter of Pitt and Angelina Jolie, made headlines last year when she dropped her father's surname.

A video showing her introducing herself without Pitt's surname circulated widely, suggesting a move away from her father's identity. Following in her sister's footsteps, Shiloh, upon turning 18 on May 27, sought to legally change her name to Shiloh Jolie, dropping the 'Pitt' part.

Vivienne, another of Jolie's daughters, was credited as a producer under the name Vivienne Jolie for her mother's Broadway project, 'The Outsiders'. Pax, too, has expressed his stance towards Pitt; he attracted attention when a Father's Day post from 2020, allegedly from his private Instagram account, was revealed by MailOnline.

In it, Pax is said to have written, "Happy Father's Day to this world class a***hole," addressing Pitt and accusing him of being inconsiderate and lacking empathy towards his younger siblings. Despite these familial strains, Pitt has been moving forward personally, recently making his first public appearance with his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, after two years of dating.

Brad Pitt and his partner Ines made a stylish appearance on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival. The 60 year old actor and 34 year old jewellery designer were seen hand-in-hand, accompanied by Brad's close friend George Clooney, 63, and his wife Amal, 46.

Despite Brad and Angelina Jolie's divorce being finalised, there remains an ongoing dispute between them. This centres around a contentious lawsuit over the French winery they bought during happier times.

Brad initiated legal action against Angelina after she sold her share of their winery to a Russian oligarch's company without his consent. Although Brad recently experienced a legal victory, the settlement is reportedly far from concluded.

Last month, a judge ruled that Brad must disclose documents that Paul Murphy, a lawyer for Jolie, 49, claims will demonstrate "communications concerning abuse, lies to authorities, and years of cover up" on Pitt's part. Pitt's legal team previously attempted to have the motion denied, labelling Angelina's demands as "wide-ranging and intrusive," and a "sensationalist fishing expedition."

Angelina's team argued that the documents were 'crucial evidence' that Brad has "fought for years to hide." In a statement, Angelina's attorney Murphy remarked: "I want to again emphasise that Angelina never wanted any of this," and continued, "She never pressed charges, she left all their properties, and she is the one who tried to sell him the business in the first place.

To this day, Mr. Pitt has never been held accountable for his actions and has at all times controlled Miraval and the winery, yet he still demands more. She wants this to end, the children want this to end, and Mr. Pitt should focus on healing their family, not pursuing lawsuits."
