According to reports, Shakya has appealed against his conviction and sentence, and on 22 September 2026 a division bench of Justice Prathiba M Singh and Justice Dinesh Bhatt heard the matter. The court described the trial judge's words as a message of encouragement and recorded them in its order.

The Delhi High Court has directed that a trial judge's message be delivered to a 10-year-old POCSO survivor along with Rs 10.50 lakh compensation. The order came after the judge told the minor that the accused will "remain in the cage for the rest of his life".
