Devon trains cancelled by heavy snow and dozens of fallen trees
by Toby Codd · DevonLiveMultiple train services in Devon are being cancelled today (Friday, November 22) due to heavy snow and fallen trees. People have been urged not to try and travel between Exeter and Barnstaple, and Exeter and Okehampton.
The recent heavy snowfall has caused a number of trees to fall onto the tracks in the county. According to Network Rail Western, a total of 70 trees have been removed so far. There is also significant disruption on Devon's roads as a result of the snow and icy conditions.
The treacherous conditions mean that no trains will run to Barnstaple until 12pm. Meanwhile, no trains will run to Okehampton until 4pm.
Network Rail Western said in a post on X at 9.35am this morning: "Heavy snow means that no trains are able to run to Barnstaple until noon, or Okehampton until 4pm. Our teams are working hard to clear fallen trees which came down with the snowfall - 70 have already been removed. Ticket acceptance is available on Stagecoach buses."
Traffic monitoring site Inrix added: "Service suspended on Great Western Railway between Exeter Central and Barnstaple, and between Exeter Central and Okehampton due to points failure at Crediton and snow. Customers are advised not to attempt to travel along this route."
