Skier dead after avalanche near Revelstoke
by Emma Crawford · CityNewsA skier is dead after being recovered from an avalanche in the Selkirk Mountains near Revelstoke, the RCMP says.
The skier was with three companions and a guide when the avalanche happened around 2 p.m. Thursday.
“The skier was located in the debris field under approximately 1.5 metres of snow, and CPR was initiated before transport to hospital,” Mounties said.
“Despite life-saving efforts, the skier was pronounced deceased.”
There is no indication of criminality, investigators say.
Cpl. Brett Urano says this is a tragic reminder of the risks inherent in spending time in the backcountry.
“We encourage everyone planning to travel in avalanche terrain to stay informed of current conditions, ensure they are properly equipped, and make conservative decisions to help keep themselves and others safe,” Urano said.
