High streamflow advisory lifted for Metro Vancouver, North Shore Mountains, Fraser Valley
by Emma Crawford · CityNewsB.C.’s River Forecast Centre has lifted a high streamflow advisory for much of the south coast.
This includes the North Shore, Metro Vancouver, Howe Sound, Sunshine Coast, and the Fraser Valley.
“Rivers continue to recede from elevated rainfall and snowmelt runoff over the past week,” the forecast centre said.
“Flows in some larger and lake-fed river systems remain elevated but are expected to continue to ease through the start of the week. While current high flow hazards have subsided, some precipitation mid-week may cause minor, temporary increases in flows within smaller, responsive streams.”
On Saturday, the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship, which manages the River Forecast Centre, had downgraded an earlier warning that came as an atmospheric river pounded B.C.’s south coast for several days. From Monday to Friday last week, some areas — including the North Shore mountains and Fraser Valley — had up to 300 millimetres of rain.
A high streamflow advisory is issued when river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, while no major flooding is expected.
