Puri: Deities to wear Nabanka Besha today, ‘Chaula Melan’, ‘Phula Melana’ festivals to be held

Puri: The three deities of Srimandira, the famous Lord Jagannath temple in Puri of Odisha will be worn the famous ‘Nabanka’ Besha today. Besides, the ‘Chaula Melan’ and ‘Phula Melan’ ceremonies will also be held.
Apart from this today is also the last day of Mahaprabhu’s Pahili Bhoga, which had started from Dhanu Sankranti.
Today, in the evening, the Malchula will be put on the Thakur with the help of Khuntia and Pushpalak Servitors.
Similarly, in the Badasinghar Besha, conch shells, chakras, ploughshares, tusks, earrings etc. made of thermocol and polythene and kaintha gum will be put on Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra.
In this Besha, Jagannath and Balabhadra will wear Makar Kundal, conch shells, chakras, ploughshares, tusks, etc. made of sol, respectively. This Besha is known as Navaka Besha. In the Nava Besha, the head of the Thakur is adorned with a garland of marigolds from the Ratnasinghasan to the floor.

In the Badasingha Besha, the cheeta, guna, karapallava, adharmaala and the sripayara mala that adorn the deities are also made of marigolds.
The Hruda Padaka is a combination of marigolds with roses. And the marigold garland is prepared for this Besha by the Mahant of the Bada Odia Math and his disciples.
This garland, made of thousands of marigolds and Tulsi, is offered to the temple by the Bada Odia Math.
A 16-hand long garland for Mahaprabhu Jagannath, a 14-hand long garland for elder brother Balabhadra and a 12-hand long garland for sister Subhadra are offered to the temple by the Bada Odia Math.
