Pahili Bhog offered to Lord Jagannath at Puri on Dhanu Sankranti

Puri: The Pahili Bhoga ritual at the Puri Srimandir began on Tuesday, marking the auspicious Dhanu Sankranti. This ritual will continue for a month, till the day before Makar Sankranti, which falls on January 14, 2026.
As part of the Dwara Phita (opening of the temple doors) ritual, the temple doors were opened at 2 am Between 5:30 am and 6 am, Pahili Bhoga was offered to the Holy Trinity. During this period, the offering known as Pahili Bhog, along with Ballabh Bhog, will be presented to Lord Jagannath.
Offerings will include traditional delicacies like Bada Jhili, Darasua Badi, Badabada, Kakara, Amalu, Nail, Enduri, Mugei, Chadhei Neda, Ladu, Gaja, Gaintha, Manda, and Khaira Chula.

The temple will also conduct other daily rituals, including Mangala Arati, Rosha Homa, Mailama, Tadapa Lagi, and Abakasha.
As per tradition, Goddess Lakshmi is believed to reside at her parental home for around one month. As part of the custom, Mother Yashoda is said to offer special delicacies to Mahaprabhu, including pitha prepared from lentils and wheat flour, sweetened with ghee and jaggery, along with the traditional Dhanu Muan.
