Bhubaneswar: After remaining closed for 44 days, the Kalinga Ghat road in Kandhamal district has reopened to traffic from Saturday, November 7. The decision brings relief to commuters who had been facing difficulties due to the prolonged restriction.

Kandhamal District Collector has permitted the movement of all types of vehicles through the ghat until further orders. With the restrictions lifted, passenger vehicles and other transport can now use the route.

The road was closed following landslides and damage to a section of National Highway-157 amid heavy rainfall in September. The closure had affected connectivity between Kandhamal and Ganjam districts, forcing commuters to take longer alternative routes.

The reopening is expected to provide significant relief to daily commuters, transport operators, and local businesses that were affected by the disruption.
