Missing Fishing Trawler ‘Jai Maa Kali’ Found Off West Bengal Coast, 1 Body Recovered, 14 Fishermen Still Missing

Bhubaneswar: Ten days after 15 fishermen went missing while venturing into the deep sea to catch Hilsa, the missing trawler Jai Maa Kali has been traced off the Bakkhali coast in West Bengal.
The trawler was found in a submerged condition. A search and rescue operation is underway on a war footing. One body has been recovered from inside the trawler. The whereabouts of the remaining 14 missing fishermen are still unknown.
The 15 fishermen had gone missing on July 2nd after leaving from Shankarpur beach in West Bengal for deep-sea fishing. Despite extensive search efforts, there was no trace of them until now.

The missing fishermen include three from Uluda village under Bhogarai block in Balasore district of Odisha. Three brothers from the same family — Jairam Majhi, Rabindra Majhi, and Jagannath Majhi — are among those missing. They had set out with other fishermen on July 2nd from Shankarpur beach in West Bengal in the trawler to catch fish in the deep sea.
The recovery operation in the sea is still ongoing. Authorities and local administration are coordinating efforts to trace the other missing fishermen.
