Puri: On the occasion of Basanta Panchami or Saraswati Puja, the ‘Rathakatha Anukula’ ritual was performed in Puri, Odisha, marking the countdown to Rath Yatra 2026.
Accordingly, three pieces of 12-foot long Dhaura wood logs, brought from Nayagarh forest, were placed in front of the Srimandira temple office and worshipped.
According to tradition, after royal priests (Raja Purohita) and Stotriya Brahmins performed special puja to Maa Saraswati, they worshipped the three Dhaura wood logs at Rathkhala with ‘bandapana’.
The process of cutting the chariot woods (Ratha Katha Chirata) is set to begin on the next Ramanavami Tithi.
A total of 865 wood pieces are required to build the chariots, with 83 pieces having arrived in Puri in three trucks on January 2.
