Puri: The sacred festival of Vijaya Dashami is being celebrated at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri today, with Lord Jagannath and His siblings set to appear before devotees in the magnificent Suna Besha (golden attire).

As part of the special rituals, the Suna Besha will be performed following the completion of the Abakasha Niti, application of sandalwood paste, offering of new clothes and adornment of the deities with 32 types of gold ornaments.

On the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, the traditional Ayudha Puja (worship of weapons) will also be performed at the Srimandir.

Following the completion of the Sakala Dhupa ritual, the sacred weapons will undergo Mahasnana (ceremonial bathing), followed by Varuna Puja.

As per tradition, the Mekap servitors will place the sacred weapons on three silver plates and, accompanied by Taluchha and Pradhani servitors, circumambulate the main temple three times.

Thereafter, the Pushpalaka servitors will ceremonially adorn Lord Balabhadra with the Hala and Musala (plough and mace), Devi Subhadra with the golden Tadaki, and Lord Jagannath with the Shankha and Chakra (conch and discus).

Another significant attraction of Vijaya Dashami is the traditional procession of the representative deities of Lord Jagannath, Madanmohan and Ramakrishna. Adorned in the warrior attire known as Bira Besha, the deities will proceed to the Mahakhala, also called Dussehra Pada, at the Shree Jagannath Ballav Math.

Meanwhile, a large number of devotees have gathered in Puri to witness the rare and magnificent attire of the deities and seek their blessings on the auspicious occasion.

In another important ritual, the immersion of Maa Kakudikhai, the representative deity of Maa Bimala, will take place today.

The immersion ceremony of other Gosani idols will be held tomorrow following the traditional Devi Sabha in front of the Shree Jagannath Temple.
