Unprovoked assault of teenage boy in Cork

Gardaí in Cork are investigating an unprovoked assault in which a teenage boy suffered a fractured nose and a black eye.

The incident occurred in Ballinure Avenue in Mahon in the southside of the city at around 9.30pm last Friday.

The 17-year-old had gone to a branch of Tesco in Mahon Point shopping centre with his younger brother in order to pick up a birthday card.

On their way back from the shopping centre, the older teenager was set upon from behind by two youths. His parents were made aware of the incident, and the alarm was raised.

Gardaí have confirmed that the injured young man was taken to hospital for medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
