Van driver who left the scene of fatal hit-and-run in Co Kerry arrested

A YOUNG MAN was killed in a hit-and-run in Co Kerry in the early hours of this morning.

The male pedestrian, aged in his late teens, was hit by a van shortly after 3am on the N69 in Listowel. The van failed to remain at the scene.

The young man was pronounced dead at the scene, gardaí said. The coroner has been notified.

The van was later located by gardaí and the male driver, aged in his 30s, was arrested. He is currently detained at a garda station in Kerry.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

The N69 between Cahirdown Roundabout, Listowel (Main Tarbert Road) and the townland of Derry, Listowel is closed pending examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Local diversions are in place.
