Metroid Ravenous is a new side-scrolling adventure, and Samus is really hungry

Samus returns in Metroid Ravenous, a new side-scrolling adventure for Switch 2 that will launch on 28th January 2027.

The galaxy-famous bounty hunter is attacked by a mysterious group in wide-brimmed headgear, coming off the worse through the trailer and left afflicted with a vast hunger. That’s right, Samus is now as ravenous.

This game looks to build on the formula set out in Metroid Dread, with a melee counter and riposte a key part of Samus’ combat abilities as she explores. But what’s really different this time is that, as Samus defeats enemies, she will need to absorb their energy, a little like the Metroid that she’s long found herself having to battle against. That’s certainly a new thematic twist, and could lead to some interesting places for Samus’ abilities.
