Plans afoot to tap tribal heartland of Bhadrachalam’s tourism potential
by P. Sridhar · The HinduPlans are afoot to showcase the rich tribal culture and traditions as well as dish out traditional delicacies to devotees visiting the Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple in Bhadrachalam during the ensuing Teppotsavam and Mukkoti (Vaikunta) Ekadasi festival, slated to be held on January 9 and 10.
The district administration has initiated arrangements to set up traditional huts depicting the tribal lifestyle and camping facilities in the tribal heartland of Bhadrachalam to familiarise visitors with the centuries-old customs and traditions of Adivasis, according to official sources.
The ambitious plan seeks to encourage visitors to have a glimpse of the artifacts and other exhibits at the mini-museum at the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) headquarters to explore the scenic beauty of the Kinnerasani reservoir in Palvancha mandal and gain an insight into the tribal lifestyle at Bojjiguppa village in Dummugudem mandal.
The striking feature of the plan is to set up food stalls to dish out diverse traditional food made of millets and leafy vegetables to visitors. The idea is to familiarise people with tribal cuisine and promote the livelihood of locals.
Bhadradri Kothagudem Collector Jitesh V. Patel on Friday visited the karakatta (flood bank) on the banks of the Godavari river in Bhadrachalam. He reviewed the arrangements being made for the ensuing Teppotsavam, tourism promotion and cultural programmes slated to be held during the Mukkoti Ekadasi festivities.
