Bushfire breaks out near Sumber Alam Sanctuary in Petra Jaya, Kuching
by Galileo Petingi · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (April 4): A bushfire has broken out not far from Sumber Alam Sanctuary, off Jalan Sultan Tengah in Petra Jaya here on Saturday.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) dispatched firefighters from the Petra Jaya and Padungan fire stations after receiving a call at 1.38pm.
Firefighters are currently at the scene working to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby woodland.
“The fire involved a 0.12-hectare bush area and was spreading towards a nearby woodland of about 30 hectares.
“After the blaze was confirmed extinguished via aerial drone, Bomba personnel found several pieces of burnt cable rubber, believed to have been deliberately set alight, which triggered the fire,” Bomba said.
The operation concluded at 5.18pm.
