Trial date set for Jeffrey and Eleanor Donaldson
by Conor Macauley, https://www.facebook.com/rtenews/ · RTE.ieA date has been fixed for the trial of former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson and his wife in relation to alleged sex offences.
During a short review hearing in Newry Crown Court, Judge Paul Ramsey listed the case for 3 November.
The case had been due to be heard in March but was delayed due to illness on the part of 59-year-old Eleanor Donaldson.
In court this morning, a defence barrister said a medical report was imminent which would determine future progress in the case.
A separate independent assessment is also being undertaken to determine her fitness to stand trial. That will take place in mid-July or earlier if an opportunity arises.
A defence barrister asked for a review hearing to monitor progress. That will take place on 5 June.
Neither accused will be required to attend court on that day.
Ms Donaldson has pleaded not guilty to three charges of aiding and abetting her husband.
The court has heard she will also be pleading not guilty to two other charges.
Mr Donaldson, 62, has pleaded not guilty to 18 charges including one count of rape, four counts of gross indecency and 13 charges of indecent assault.
The charges relate to alleged offences against two plaintiffs between 1985 and 2008.
