Maryland woman's winning lottery numbers came from deceased brother

July 13 (UPI) -- A Maryland woman said she has her deceased brother to thank for her winning a $50,000 prize from a Pick 5 lottery drawing.

The St. Mary's County woman told Maryland Lottery officials she found a five-digit code associated with her brother's services after he died a few years ago, and started using those numbers to enter Pick 5 drawings.

She used those digits when she bought her ticket for the June 24 midday drawing from Accokeek Gas & Go at on Bryan Point Road in Prince George's County.

The player said she was lounging on her couch at home when she checked the results of the drawing.

"I had to do a double take," she said.

The ticket turned out to be a $50,000 winner.

The winner said her prize money will go toward paying bills and taking a trip to Jamaica with her son and her best friend.
