A crash at the Tawa interchange closed SH1 in both directions at 6.30 this morning.
The main highway was closed between the Tawa on-ramp and off-ramp. The northbound Tawa on-ramp was also closed.
In a masterful understatement, NZTA advised motorists: “Consider using alternative routes.”
The road stayed fully closed for almost two hours.
Then at 8.25. one southbound lane was reopened.
However, said NZTA, “northbound lanes between the on-ramp and off-ramp remains closed, and the northbound on-ramp is also closed.”
Northbound traffic was detoured through Tawa’s Main Road, causing delays.
At 10.20, the northbound delays were back to the Glenside off-ramp.
The road was not fully reopened till 11.10.
NZTA then advised: “Expect delays as northbound congestion eases.”
