Rant and Rave: Reader enjoyed interaction with visitor from Australia
by Submitted by Seattle Times readers · The Seattle TimesRAVE to a kind visitor from Australia. On the afternoon of June 19, a lively crowd walked north on First Avenue. The big game was over, USA had won and cheers rattled the windows. Then a gust ruffled the scarves of red, white and blue and a bit of yellow, and someone lost control of a basket of printed flyers in the middle of the street. Paper flew everywhere. One solitary man clad in Aussie gear abandoned the crowded sidewalk to gather up the scattering paper. Conscience-stricken, I joined in, and moments later, the job was done and the celebration marched on. We shook hands and spoke long enough to confirm he was a visitor from Australia. Thank you for visiting, Mr. Australia. You have made this a kinder world.
RANT to all the “No Turn On Red” signs that have popped up at virtually every intersection. It already takes too long to get around the city!
