WATCH: Western Washington residents recover after bomb cyclone havoc

by · The Seattle Times

Residents across the Puget Sound region awoke Wednesday morning to fallen trees and debris strewn over rooftops and roadways, following one of the strongest windstorms to hit the area in years.

The bomb cyclone off Washington’s coast brought winds up to 74 mph that killed two and knocked out electricity for over 640,000 customers overnight. For some, it could take several days for power to be restored.

The storm’s easterly winds may have been a major cause for the high number of blowdowns, said Aaron Swaney, spokesperson for Snohomish County Public Utilities District.

“A lot of these trees are not used to the wind coming from that direction,” Swaney said.
