Chinese medical ship to see only 100 patients daily on Monday and Tuesday, says Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health and Wellness says only 100 patients will be seen daily, on a first-come, first-served basis aboard the Chinese medical vessel, Silk Road Ark. The advisory covers today and tomorrow.

The ministry said spaces are limited and apologised for any inconvenience caused.

The vessel, staffed by more than 100 Chinese clinicians and support personnel, arrived in Montego Bay last week to assist Jamaica’s healthcare system, which continues to recover from damage caused by Hurricane Melissa in October.

Health and Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton welcomed the ship, highlighting its technical capacity and the timely support it provides to local healthcare.

“They have several operating theatres, significant diagnostic equipment, and various specialties. They’re working with the local team to identify those persons and give that type of support,” Dr. Tufton said after touring the vessel at the Montego Bay Cruise Ship Terminal.

The Silk Road Ark is providing outpatient services to both Jamaican and Chinese residents and is scheduled to conduct elective surgeries, including hernia procedures, in Montego Bay, Kingston, and Falmouth over the coming week.
