POLL OF THE DAY: Do you support Streeting's puberty blockers trial?
by Daily · Mail OnlineWes Streeting's puberty blockers trial for children is facing backlash as campaigners last night began legal action to halt a trial of puberty-blocking drugs on more than 200 children.
The NHS-backed experiment was branded 'grotesque' by the Tories, with Conservative Equalities spokesperson Claire Coutinho suggesting it was equivalent to 'chemical castration'.
The new legal fight is led by concerned parents and a woman who regretted her own gender treatment. The campaigners say the testing of the controversial drugs on gender-questioning youngsters is unlawful and unethical.
They have sent a 40-page 'letter before claim' to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and Health Research Authority, which last month gave the green light for King's College London to carry out the trial.
Meanwhile supporters of the trial laud it as essential to pave the way for safe care for transgender children.
Now you can have your say on the puberty blockers trial in the Daily Mail's latest poll:
In yesterday's poll, Mail readers were asked: 'Should face masks be mandatory in indoor public spaces during 'superflu' outbreak?' Some 32 per cent of you said 'yes' and 68 per cent said 'no'.
