Gwyneth Paltrow reveals she has her blood filtered to clear 'toxins'
by RICHARD EDEN, DIARY EDITOR · Mail OnlineGwyneth Paltrow has revealed she underwent a controversial 'detox' treatment costing up to £36,500 to remove 'toxins' from her body.
The Oscar-winner and Goop founder, 53, said she tried a controversial blood-filtering treatment called therapeutic plasma exchange to strip the blood of toxins such as microplastics and mould.
The star, who frequently experiments with wellness trends, underwent five sessions at a Chicago clinic charging up to £36,500.
The treatment draws out blood, separates and discards the toxin-carrying liquid, and pumps fresh liquid back into the body.
The NHS uses it to treat specific autoimmune and neurological conditions, but its use for general detoxification remains divisive in the medical field.
Speaking to Daily Mail's Richard Eden, Gwyneth said: 'I'd been going through lots of health stuff with that kind of ambiguous chronic stuff that medicine normally has a harder time dealing with: chronic fatigue, brain fog,'
'I was so interested in this idea that we could filter out things in our blood that were making us more sick.'
'I felt amazing after,' insisted Gwyneth. 'I felt this immediate unburdening and clarity and lightness.'
Thanks to her hugely successful brand Goop, Gwyneth has become one of the most high-profile figures in the wellness world, though many of the trends she has promoted over the years have sparked controversy.
The actress has previously admitted to voluntarily getting stung by bees to reduce scarring, trying coffee enemas, and even undergoing rectal ozone therapy.
She's also a big fan of detoxes, and has participated in many different cleanses over the years - including an eight-day-long goat milk cleanse to help get rid of alleged parasites.
Last year, during an appearance on The Cutting Room Floor podcast, Gwyneth spoke about her love of cleanses, but she made the shocking claim that her body takes 'longer' to detox due to 'genetic mutations.'
'I have these genetic things that make it really hard for me to detox, like I have really high inflammation and stuff,' Gwyneth told host Recho Omondi.
Back in 2017, Gwyneth revealed during an interview with Women's Health that she had completed an eight-day goat's milk cleanse in order to get parasites out of her body, which meant that for over a week, she drank nothing but goat milk.

However, many medical experts blasted Gwyneth for promoting the cleanse afterwards.
Canadian gynaecologist Dr. Jen Gunter penned a blog post about it, branding Paltrow's claims about cleanses 'stupid' and 'dangerous'.
'This advice is stupid and dangerous and frankly insulting and if Paltrow is really a goat milk cleanse devotee it isn’t just her advice that stinks, I bet her gas is atrocious too,' Dr. Gunter wrote.
Since then, Gwyneth has been outspoken about trying many different detoxes - including a six-day bone broth cleanse in 2021 - and has promoted a bunch on Goop.
In January 2023, she sparked backlash after sharing a video detailing Goop's $195 seven-day 'reset kit'.
The kit included a meal plan and recipes for a one-week-long detox, and Gwyneth promoted it by sharing a clip of herself eating one of the meals.
