Greek prosecutors have requested access to the digital communications of six people as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis.

The prosecutor is seeking the lifting of telephone secrecy for six mobile phones, along with access to a hard drive and USB device, with investigators expected to examine digital communications that could provide evidence in the case.

The request concerns communications and other digital data covering the period from July 11, 2026, through September 10, the day after Mazonakis died.

Six phones seized from clinic staff

The mobile phones have reportedly been confiscated from people connected to the private clinic in Kolonaki where Mazonakis received treatment.

They include the phones of two doctors who have been remanded in custody, two secretaries and a nurse.

Investigators are seeking the widest available period of communications in an effort to establish what happened before, during and after the treatment that preceded Mazonakis’ death.

The material could include calls, messages and other digital communications relevant to the investigation, subject to the scope of the judicial authorisation.

The prosecutor’s request will now be considered by the Council of Misdemeanor Courts, with a decision expected within the week.

The investigation is examining the circumstances surrounding Mazonakis’ death and the actions of those involved in his treatment. The two doctors remain accused in connection with the case, and the investigation has not established criminal responsibility through the requested digital evidence at this stage.

The lifting of telephone secrecy represents another significant step as authorities seek to reconstruct the events surrounding the singer’s final hours and determine what communications took place among those connected to the clinic.
