Greece Clears Way for Undersea Electricity Cable Work to Cyprus
by Kosta Papadopoulos · Greek City TimesGreek authorities have completed the required licensing procedures for research and cable-laying operations under the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection project (GSI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
The licensing followed a request from French company NEXANS, acting on behalf of GSI, the company responsible for the project.
Following a favourable opinion from the competent Interministerial Committee for the Granting of Marine Research Permits (EXAETH), the Minister of Foreign Affairs issued the relevant authorisation on November 6, 2026, allowing the research and cable-laying operations to proceed.
The research vessel subsequently requested the required Notice to Mariners (NAVTEX) to carry out the operations. The authorities issued the notice immediately.
