Cleaning fan shares 'amazing' hack to remove water stains from shower glass

Cleaning fans have been left "amazed" by the results of a simple hack to remove water stains from shower glass - and it's all thanks to a common laundry item

This simple hack could keep your shower glass sparkling.

If you have a shower with a glass screen, you'll understand the struggle of keeping it gleaming. Soap suds and other dirt can easily dry onto the surface of the glass if not wiped down after each use. If you reside in an area with hard water, you're faced with another problem - water stains.

Water stains are a result of the high mineral concentration in hard water. When shower water dries on the glass, these minerals remain and leave your shower screen covered in white streaks.

If you have the time, wiping down your shower screen after every use should help prevent the water from drying on the glass in the first place. But when you're in a hurry, you don't always have time for a full cleaning routine - especially if you're racing to leave the house on time.

Dryer sheets are THE move

Cleaning your shower screen doesn't have to be a chore though. In fact, cleaning enthusiasts claim you can bring back the shine to your glass in minutes - using one item that's typically added to your laundry.

A Reddit user posted before and after photos of their shower screen following a cleaning session, with one image showing the glass smeared with water stains and the other looking crystal clear. In their post, they revealed they'd used just one item to achieve the impressive results - dryer sheets.

Dryer sheets are commonly added to tumble dryers to reduce static, soften clothes, and impart a pleasant fragrance. But the cleaning fan claimed they can also work wonders on shower glass. All you have to do is wet the dryer sheets in water and gently swipe them over the surface to tackle grime.

The individual explained: "I just drenched each dryer sheet [in water], scrubbed (didn't have to scrub hard AT ALL) until there was a lot of soapy build-up on either the shower panel or the sheets themselves, rinsed off with water, and then repeated until there were fewer soapy streaks every time I scrubbed. Once I was happy I rinsed the panels off and dried the panels with a towel!"

The reason dryer sheets are adept at cleaning shower glass lies in the presence of an ingredient known as "dialkylester dimethyl ammonium methosulfate". This component, as remarked by a fellow Reddit user, is an acid-like chemical bearing a close resemblance in pH level to white vinegar.

They conveyed: "It's also the main chemical in a wide range of fabric softeners which is why you can usually just use vinegar instead to soften. But it is literally working by using an acid-based chemical to remove the limescale."

Other commenters were left astounded by the dramatic transformation. One individual commented: "Thank you for a good before and after. I will try these out." Another shared: "Amazing! I am going to try this tomorrow."
