Devon Starbucks closed after sewage spill

It's thought to have been made worse by heavy rain

by · DevonLive

Starbucks has had to close one of its branches in Devon as it has an overflowing septic tank. It's believed recent heavy rain has made this worse and that sewage has spilled onto a main road.

A report on the National Highways website has claimed that sewage and rainwater has flowed onto the A30 from an overflowing septic tank at the Starbucks coffee shop on the A30 near Honiton. The person who made the anonymous report said that the Environmental Health department at East Devon District Council (EDDC) has also been notified of the issue.

The report, made at 12:45pm yesterday (October 8), said: "Starbucks on the A30 Monkton Honiton has an overflowing septic tank that has worsened with the heavy rains. Environmental Health at East Devon Council have been made aware also.

"The overflow of sewage and rain water is encroaching on the A30, neighbours are also affected along that stretch."

The coffee chain has now confirmed that the branch has been closed as engineers work to fix the tank but has not said when it expects to reopen. In the meantime, it has redirected customers to their nearest alternative Starbucks, which is just off the A35 near Axminster.

A spokesperson for Starbucks said: "Engineers are working on fixing this issue as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and look forward to welcoming our local community back to the Honiton, Devon, store soon. In the meantime, customers can find their nearest store using the Starbucks Store Locator "
