The sudden death of a 45-year-old man on board a boat he lived on currently remains unexplained. Samuel Bucknall, who owned The Blue Pearl, was found passed away while moored on the River Teign on June 25, at around 8.10pm.

An inquest was recently opened into his death at Exeter Coroner's Court. The short hearing heard Mr Bucknall was born in Torbay and was single and of no fixed abode. Instead, he lived on a boat in Teignmouth.

Senior coroner Philip Spinney said: "Following concerns for his welfare, Samuel was found dead on his boat. Despite a post mortem and toxicology testing, no cause death has been identified. The cause of death given is unascertained."

The inquest was adjourned for a full hearing to be held at a later date.
