Special weather statement issued for Metro Vancouver over the weekend

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Metro Vancouver and Howe Sound for the weekend.
The agency says we can expect heavy rain and strong winds Saturday, with the possibility of some wet snow over higher terrain areas in the afternoon.
“A frontal system will arrive on Saturday, bringing periods of heavy rain and strong winds to the south coast. Over Howe Sound and Metro Vancouver, light rain will start Saturday morning and become heavier near noon,” the weather service said.
“As precipitation intensity increases, snow levels could lower to near 150 metres resulting in heavy rain becoming mixed with wet snow over higher terrain of Metro Vancouver during the Saturday afternoon to evening period. Please be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”
There may also be some localized water pooling and reduced visibility — so drive to conditions — and the winds could cause more power outages.
The poor conditions are expected to taper off overnight Saturday.
The Sea to Sky Highway is also under a special weather statement as the “first significant snowfall of the season” is set to blanket the region on Saturday. An accumulation of five to 10 centimetres of snow is possible.
