A few hours after the death news got out, an X (formerly Twitter) user, Joshua Simone claimed that Joni's cause of death was revealed to be bone cancer. When a commentator asked about the source of the information, she shared that she had seen some TV broadcasts about it. The original poster wrote:

"Joni Lamb, Daystar TV Founder and CEO, has passed away at the age of 65. On May 7, 2026, the news was confirmed that Joni Lamb cause of death was bone cancer, leaving the Christian television network and her family in shock."

The claim regarding Joni Lamb's cause of death remain unverified, and official sources have not confirmed it yet. The only information Daystar shared with the public was that Joni chose to keep her health struggle private. The network mentioned that amid her prolonged medical issues, she faced another setback as a new back injury deteriorated her condition. In turn, it created more complications that led to a serious health situation in the days leading up to her death. Despite the attempts from doctors and good wishes from her supporters, her health continued to decline. Their exact words were:

"The back injury compounded those challenges and led to a more serious medical situation than anyone anticipated. Despite the dedicated efforts of her medical team and the prayers of so many around the world, her condition worsened in the last few days."

Loni even cut her son off from the family business by firing him from Daystar. However, setting aside the differences, Jonathan shared an unseen childhood picture of himself with his parents. The photo exudes warmth and love, and was taken long before he reached adulthood, got married, and got estranged. The photo has been going viral after his wife's comment regarding not being informed of Joni's death. Suzy and Jonathan were upset that they couldn't bid Joni a final farewell.

The estrangement between Joni Lamb and her son, Jonathan Lamb, alongside his wife, Suzy Lamb, stemmed from the couple's allegations of a child sexual abuse cover-up against her. According to the duo, Joni didn't take appropriate steps regarding the alleged sexual abuse of their young daughter by a male family member of the Lambs and instead sided with the man to protect the family's reputation. Jonathan claimed he was demoted and eventually fired because he refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that would prevent him from speaking out about the abuse.
